The PEACH SAPPHIRE is one of the most sought after gemstones for engagement rings, gem collectors, or anyone looking for an alternative to a traditional diamond. The term Peach Sapphire refers to a unique subset of the “fancy sapphire” family that has a balanced saturation of pink and orange hues versus the traditional blue hue for which sapphires are most commonly known. Sapphires have been used in fine jewelry for centuries not only because they naturally occur in a variety of beautiful colors, but because they are extremely durable. Sapphires are among the hardest minerals, ranking a 9 out of 10 on the Mohs Scale of Mineral Hardness. There are only two minerals which rank higher
The beauty and durability of sapphires make them an excellent choice for engagement rings. Rare natural colored sapphires usually hold or increase in value, making them superb investments.
Peach Sapphires are very unique in that no two are alike. Hue, saturation, cut, clarity and carat weight all play a role in quality and value of peach sapphires. Within the “Peach Sapphire” category the colors range from those with an even mix of orange and pink others with less of one of those colors. Gems with less pink are coined ‘peach champagne’ color, and those with more pink which we refer to as ‘blush peach’. Sapphires are one of many gemstones that are routinely heat treated to enhance the color or saturation of the gemstone. When done correctly heat treating does not affect the hardness or durability of the sapphire, it simply enhances the color of the gemstone. ‘Unheated’ sapphires maintain the natural color of the rough sapphire, making them more rare and valuable than heated sapphires. Most of the peach sapphires in our inventory are unheated and come out of the ground with their beautiful pastel color.
